Through December: 35th San Francisco SPCA/Macy’s Holiday Windows

Join the San Francisco SPCA for the 35th annual Holiday Windows event at Macy’s Union Square! Over the years, this holiday tradition has helped more than 10,000 homeless animals find their forever families. In addition, donations are raised to support the SF SPCA’s year-round lifesaving work. Last year, the pandemic made things a little tricky, so instead of filling the holiday windows with adoptable animals, the SF SPCS created special videos of rescue animals and shelter alumni. The webcams played for 6,611 hours and got 122,352 total views – and 341 cats were adopted! For full details on this year’s event, visit sfspca.org/holiday.

4-5: Jackson Galaxy Webinars

Jackson Galaxy has announced two new virtual cat camp sessions. The first, taking place on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 11 a.m. ET, is called Raise a Glass: Grief and the Healing Power of Ritual During the Holidays and is hosted by Cat Camp Counselors Jackson Galaxy and Animal Companion Loss Recovery Specialist Stephanie Rogers. Known as a “disenfranchised loss” (one that is not readily recognized and/or honored by society), the death of an animal companion can leave you feeling isolated in your grief, especially during the holidays. During this webinar, the counselors will share ideas for rituals and activities to honor and remember your beloved pet at this challenging time of year.

On Sunday, Dec. 5, at 2 p.m. ET, the counselors return with Saving Yourself so You Can Continue to Save Animals: Cumulative Grief in Animal Service. Those who serve animals as rescuers, shelter staff, animal control officers or veterinary professionals, know from the start that their work will be full of loss. These losses often result in “cumulative grief,” an accumulation of unprocessed grief that builds up over time. The counselors invite you to join a safe space of support and information designed to help you recognize and incorporate the grief that naturally occurs in animal service.

Tickets for each seminar cost $10. For more information and to register, visit catcamp.com.
